Okay, stats first. GPA: ~3.5 sGPA ~3.6. Took the GRE and scored 89 percentile verbal, 75 percentile math, 67 percentile writing.
MCAT: Registered for this coming Jan. I took the AAMC online test (#3) and scored 32 (10PS, 10VR, 12BS). I am pretty sure I can push this to 35 by test day.
Degrees: BS in Animal Biology (minors in Chemistry and Writing). Currently enrolled in a MS in Biochemistry program.
EC/Research/etc. Okay... Here's the story. I switched majors a couple times. Started Sociology; dropped that pretty quick. Then went to writing; love that, but decided to focus on a major that would actually make money. Switched to pre-vet. Eventually finished all the required courses. In total, spent about 6 years in undergrad. -_- Currently considering MD school (rather than DVM school) for financial reasons (also read below for my specialty plans).
Unfortunately, I have very sparse ECs. I spend the majority of my free time reading and writing, so unless some adcom wants to look over all my manuscripts and talk about the hundreds of books I've read, I have practically nothing to show in this area.
As for research, I have a little. The MS program I'm in now is research-based, so I'm going to have a lot of molecular bio and/or animal based research by the time the next admissions cycle comes around.
Schools: OHSU is within commuting distance from my house. They would be the most convenient by far. (But, honestly, I would be willing to go anywhere that accepts me.)
Specializing: I have always been interested in anesthesiology. Whether this is research or clinical, animal or human, has never mattered. So, I would want to either be an anesthesiologist or a veterinary anesthesiologist (yes, those exist) depending on whether I go to DVM or MD school.
What are my chances? Any other thoughts?
