Stats:
Cumulative GPA = 3.25
DO Science GPA = 3.05
MD BCPM GPA = 3.15
MCAT: 26Q (8,8,10)
Double Major: Electrical Engineering and Biochemistry (4th year)
California Resident, not URM
EC's:
MD Shadowing - 5 hours (will have some more by application time)
Emergency Room volunteer - 70 hours
Volunteer at blood draw lab: 140 hours
Volunteer at health clinic: 30 hours
Part time job for all of my undergraduate time, 4 years total (~10hrs/wk.)
Questions:
1) Should I retake the MCAT?
2) I'm willing to take out a big loan to cover a SMP or Post-bacc program in the U.S. Would I be a match fit for any? I notice many have a 27 MCAT minimum with much higher averages. I would only be interested in doing this if it really could help my admission chances for a wide range of DO (and possibly even MD?) schools.
3) Should I apply to DO's this June? My DO sGPA may go up a bit, possibly to 3.1-3.2. I'll also have a little more extracurriculars by that time. Could I apply to DO's and SMP's at the same time?
4) What would you do if you were in my shoes and your goal was to attend any DO or MD US school?
