I'm not sure how to begin. I would like to say that there is a lot I must overcome in order to become a physician. That's the story for everyone, but I feel in my particular case I have extraordinary circumstances.
I'm a very intelligent person. And I'm not saying that haughtily. I understand things that virtually everyone around me on a constant basis doesn't seem to comprehend, particularly in the sciences. However, I've had a serious problem with motivation and procrastination. In my early college career, I received 2 Fs, a D, and 9 withdraws. Many withdraws were from family emergencies, and among all the craziness of grandma's and grandpa's having surgeries, my wife having our baby, and just trying to survive, I forgot to withdraw, hence the poor grades aforementioned.
Currently, without counting my early grades, I have a 3.5 that is climbing. Currently every course I'm in I have been receiving marks about 95%. Biology and the others sciences are what I'm good at, and I love biology! I'm currently taking anatomy and physiology (I know I don't need it to get into med. school. I'm taking it for fun), and I enjoy every minute of it, and am also tearing it up; my last tests were a 96% and 97%, in lecture and lab accordingly. I'm on the honor roll and was just asked to join an honorary academic society due to performance.
What I'm wondering is: will my past performance completely destroy my chance at becoming a physician?
Also, if anyone could give me a good resource from the forum on ECs that would bolster my application, I would be very appreciative!
Thanks, everyone!
p.s. I have a son that makes things a bit harder and still am excelling.
