I am a Junior Undergrad currently studying for my MCAT (taking a Kaplan course), and am slightly worried about getting accepted.
3.45 Cumulative GPA, 3.4 Science GPA (3.6 in upper level courses)
MCAT assessment test: 25 (this was before any studying), hoping for a 30 (taking it the end of May)
Only about 15 shadow hours, but have something set up with an orthopedic surgeon starting next week until the end of may.
Not much volunteer hours (~20 hours), but I did go to Africa for a week two summers ago for service projects, building an orphanage and repairing schools for children, and conducting youth football clinics.
Also, with my job (worked there for a year), I work with intellectually disabled individuals. I know this is not volunteering, but it is sort of patient contact and health care.
I was wondering what I should do to help my chances, as well as if I should aim more toward DO schools than MD. I will be applying to schools this summer.
