I'm currently a junior and an engineering major. I don't plan on applying to stellar medical schools but I'd still like to present myself as a competitive applicant.
CURRENT STATS
- cGPA: 3.8
- sGPA: 3.7+
- Over 3 Years of research and presentations in multiple forums (two different labs over this time) (15-20 hrs/week including two summers)
- Full-time summer internship at a Fortune 500 company dealing with a health sustainability project (this is not really clinical experience, but something with loads of leadership, communication, teamwork experience)
- Vice President of an organization with about 100 members (2+ yrs)
- Founded a personal business and have many clients which I work for during the school year on top of everything else
- Certified tutoring job where i tutored college students in organic chemistry and general chemistry (8 hrs/week)
- 60 Hours Community Service
- 8 Hours Shadowing Experience
MCAT
I still haven't taken the MCAT yet but am signed up for April 27. I just need to find the time to sit down and study everyday. First two practice exams I took I got 30's without studying. That was back in January. I'm hoping for something around a 36 which shouldn't be too hard, right?
REC LETTERS
I don't know who I'm going to ask my rec letters from. I have a PI who will definitely give me one. But as for professors who have graded me, I've never needed to go to office hours and all my classes have been about 150+ students. If I was actually doing bad in a class, I normally find time to go to GTAs' offices hours since they're much more flexible. (I told myself beginning this semester that I should probably go to every office hour even if I didn't have questions but that never happened. I still have half the semester left.) How do you guys suggest I overcome this?
How do I stack up thus far? What else can I be doing? Should I still be doing volunteering with my schedule?
