I graduated with an undergraduate degree about 7 years ago, in a non-science field.
I finished with a 2.85. The first two years were a waste. The second two years my gpa was over a 3.1. (trending higher as the years went on)
Lots of hours in hands on patient care experience working as an EMT and ski patroller, paid and volunteer.
I have shadowed doctors in various settings (OR, ICU, Urgent Care)
I have great references from doctors
I still have to take all pre-med courses. It's about 12 courses from my research.
I believe i can boost my gpa above a 3.0 as long as med schools allow the pre-med courses to be averaged in with my undergrad gpa. Will 12 courses do it? Obviously the goal is to get a 4.0 in all courses.
Looking for advice as to where I stand at the moment. Should I continue with my plan and start taking pre-med courses?
I am interested in anesthesia. I haven't even considered DO.
My undergrad gpa seems to be the only black mark at the moment.
Any and all thoughts are most appreciated.
As there are many "what are my chances" threads here, please direct me to any former thread that may relate to my situation.
Thank you.
