Hey All!
I've always been infatuated with the idea of going into medicine, but struggled quite a bit with my first two years in undergrad, so I put it on the shelf. But now I've transferred schools, and am working for a hydraulic fracturing company full time, while finishing up my ChemE degree, and my grades have improved dramatically. I still probably have a couple years before I graduate, since I'm taking smaller course loads so I can work full time, but I wanted to see what you all thought of my situation.
When I transferred, my cGPA was a 2.9. At the new school so far, it's at a 3.7, and I feel pretty confident that I can keep it at a reasonable level until I graduate. I don't have a ton of clinical or volunteer work, but I've shadowed a couple of docs, did a short stint working in a spinal surgery clinic, and done some volunteer work at a hospital doing newborn hearing screenings, and at an IVF clinic doing pre and post op care/prep. I am also getting ready to start volunteering at a new hospital (since I just moved) and volunteer a couple times a week teaching dance.
I would really like to go DO (my number one choice is RVU, but obviously am open to wherever I get in...assuming I do!), and am very interested in OB/GYN. Anyway, I just don't know how kindly the admissions comm will look on my transferring, and was wondering how that might look to them. I'm open to doing a masters or post bacc as well, if that's necessary. Just wanted some opinions on my next few steps! :D
