(sorry in advance for punctuation/capitalization/grammar mistakes... i'm in a hurry!)
Ergh! I've been lurking on Student Doctor Forums but I feel as if no answer is satisfactory for my own situation. Bullet points:
- Top 20 college
- 3.51 cumulative GPA (my first two years weren't as good and I have an upward trend my last two years 3.8/3.9)
- majored in biochemistry
- only two state schools in my state
- I think my science GPA is around 3.45
- 3 years of research in the same lab (I've presented at 6 meetings but no pubs)
- i have some amazing leadership positions
- i have participated in a global health study abroad program
- shadowed 3 doctors (two surgeons and an oncologist)
- i have two prominent fellowships/scholarships (i'm afraid to say them because i am trying to be as anonymous as possible and someone might know who i am, haha)
- non trad student (applying when i'm 23)
- black female
basically, my ECs are pretty solid (tutoring, volunteering, babysitting, involved with my school's premed society, volunteered at two hospitals, along with the other activities in the above section... i would like to think i have an interesting life story) but i'm REALLY worried about my numbers! if you see my transcript, you will see an amazing upward trend but my MCAT (1st attempt: 6VR 9PS 10BS; 2nd: 8VR 9PS 11 BS; from a 25O to a 28O) is not as great as i want it to be!
I have no desire to go to Harvard, Johns Hopkins etc but i would love to go to places like Mount Sinai, Emory, etc. I plan on applying broadly... but smart.
WHAT ARE MY CHANCES?? Haha
I plan on applying next summer and I don't have the time to take the MCAT a 3rd time...
thanks for all your advice in advance!
