Hello!! Any and all help/criticism is welcome here...
I'm 29 and I want to know what my chances are. Here are the scholastics, and even though there is no exucse to an AdCom for poor grades I've put reasons beside them for you to understand why. EDIT: Also I should throw out there all classes at DePaul were while working 40 hours a week and all classes at IUN I've been working 50-70 hours a week consistently.
Moraine Valley College
A.A. Theatre - 3.2
DePaul University (Chicago, IL)
B.A. Public Relations/Journalism - 3.0
Northwestern University (Evanston, IL)
Chem 101 - C (quit - 4-hour daily commute too much)
Indiana University (Gary, IN)
Summer 2011:
Biochemistry - F (withdrew beyond deadline due to two deaths during the seven week course - can retake to replace for GPA)
Fall 2011:
Bio 101 - B+
Chem 101 - A
Chem 101 Lab - B
Spring 2012:
Bio102 - D (Bio 102 retake - C)
Urban Public Health - A
Biochemistry - W (work conflict)
Chem 102 - W (poor professor - she was demoted following this course)
Summer 2012:
Pre-Med (non-lab) A&P - F (personal illness)
Fall 2012:
A&P w/ Lab - B
Biomedical Ethics - A
MCAT
I have not yet taken all my pre-reqs and so obviously have not taken the MCAT either, which is a good thing right now because it means I have a clean slate there. I'm taking Spring 2013 off for financial reasons and am going to spend that time studying (no sense in standing idle).
Extracurriculars
NO research
NO shadowing... yet!
600+ and counting hours as an ED Scribe
5000+ and counting hours as a 911 operator/dispatcher
8000+ hours as an EMT on an ambulance
I still have time to take some classes, but that one non-replaceable F is going to be the death of me as well as that D in Biology. No repeat of Chem 102 or Biochem yet and no Orgo or Physics, but they will be all completed by Spring 2014 and WILL NOT be anything but A's (I'm taking Spring off to work more and save so that I can drop a job come class time).
What do you think? I'm leaning DO as it is because all my ED docs are DO and they love it. However, I am also strongly considering surgery and I'm not sure how many DO surgeons there are.
Thank you, thank you!!
