Hello all! This is my first post here, and any and all help/criticism would be greatly appreciated. I am excited to finally apply to medical school, but am also very new at this and need some help putting together a school list.
A little about me:
Demographics: Asian Male, AL Resident, rising senior at public university (22 yo when I graduate)
MCAT: 39R (14 PS, 11 VR, 14 BS)
sGPA: 4.00
cGPA: 4.00
Shadowing: ~150 hrs (Primary Care, Rural Family Medicine, Urban ER)
Research: 4 summers (2 in HS), 1 publication
Volunteer Work: ~200 hrs Suicide Prevention (hotline attendant, 30+ hrs suicide prevention and general counselling training), ~30 hrs Community Free Health Clinic (was involved in establishing, took 100+ hrs work and 18+ mo. to get the clinic started but only ~30 hrs of volunteer time spent there since opening)
5 semesters teaching for the university and I love it
I'm really interested in academic medicine too. I love teaching. Academically, I am strong. In terms of ECs, I think I am okay (average). But I am kind of bipolar in interviews: they tend to either go really well or I get nervous and bomb. My inconsistent interviewing skills are my biggest concern, and that is something on which I am working. Here is a list of schools I have so far:
Baylor College
Boston University
Brown University
Columbia University
Cornell University
Dartmouth College
Duke University
Emory University
Georgetown University
Harvard University
Johns Hopkins University
Meharry Medical College
New York Medical College
New York University
Northwestern University
Rosalind Franklin University
Stanford University
University of Alabama
University of Chicago
University of Pennsylvania
University of South Alabama
Vanderbilt University
Wake Forest University
Washington University St. Louis
Yale University
I know that is a long list and I know I probably have too many reaches/overly exclusive private schools. Which ones ought to be cut? I would really appreciate any and all suggestions, additions, criticisms, etc. to this list. I really would like to avoid submitting an application (wasting money) to a university that is not going to take me seriously. Thank you guys so much for all the help, and best of luck to everyone applying this cycle!
