Hi guys,
My GPA is stellar, but I'm attending Montana State University which isn't exactly the most prestigious school. The 32 was actually lower than I wanted it to be. I am convinced I could get at least a 35, but I'm not retaking it unless you guys think it's absolutely necessary. I am a pretty great trombone player, and I have been in a lot of different music groups over the years. I've been to Europe and I've been a college orchestra section leader. Otherwise my ECs aren't as great as they could be. I have about 45 total hours of shadowing but I did a lot of that in high school. I have done a lot of non-medical volunteering through the Boy Scouts, but not a tremendous amount since starting college. I also did about 50 hours worth of medical volunteering through the Boy Scouts, but again, most of that was in high school. No research. Spent some time in a chemistry club which gave me some volunteer hours, but I was never a leader or anything.
LORs should be pretty solid. A committee letter, one from a chemistry professor who thinks I'm amazing, one from an honors seminar professor who thinks I'm a pretty decent guy, one from my trombone instructor who also thinks I'm great, and one from a pathologist who I did some shadowing with and who I've known for years. I've worked as a waiter in a restaurant and as a landscaper. My personal statement is mostly talking about my experiences at the restaurant and how I think they've prepared me for medicine. Right now I'm planning on applying to these schools:
OHSU (I'm an OR resident)
Albany Medical College
Creighton
George Washington
Georgetown
Jefferson Medical
Loyola Chicago
Medical College of Wisconsin
New York Medical College
University of Vermont
Any suggestions on my list of schools?
How good/bad do you think my odds are? Jesus this is stressful.
