Hello there,
I'm applying this cycle (hopefully tomorrow) so just looking for school list advice.
Stats:
MCAT 38O (14PS/9VR/15BS), yes Im Asian lol but I busted my butt for this
cGPA ~ BCPM ~ 3.72 (No fails/w/ etc)
Undergrad major: Biomedical Engineering (1 LOR vouching for difficulty)
Activities
BME project 2 presentations (1 poster), made a working medical device. Trying to patent soon.
Research - 1k hrs (probably more idk), one 2nd author pub in ajp heart (resubmitted recently); 1 poster
Tutoring did private and at college ~400 hrs
Working at a medical diagnostics company f/t this summer
Honors tau beta pi (Treasurer), multiple deans honor list, first year scholar
Shadowing ~ 50 hrs
Volunteering:
At ER ~ 150 hrs
As an EMT ~ 50 hrs
Played piano at an old age home ~ 20 hrs
Volunteer TA ~ 60 hrs
6 LORs (2 MDs, 3 Prof (1 PI (also prof from class), 1 bme prof, 1 other), 1 tutoring)
I anticipate at least 3-4 of them to be decently strong
Something I think I *might* be missing is leadership. I'm not sure if any of the above qualifies even though I could probably spin a few as leadership.
School List:
CA:
UCSD
UCSF
UCLA Geffen
UCD
UC Irvine
UC Riverside
USC keck
Other (hard) schools:
Columbia
Mount Sinai
Cornell
Einstein
Safeties:
Albany
Hofstra
U Washington
Hebert
Other schools Im considering:
Oakland Beaumont
Michigan state
Boston
Tufts
Dartmouth
Was considering DC schools but they just get so many applicants that I'm not sure it's worth it.
I dont want to waste money (but I should have enough to apply to about 30-40 with secondaries but then my account will be emptyyy), and I wouldnt mind waiting another year as I should have a job lined up and I'll have the publication actually published (my mcat should be valid for another year took in jan 2012). I picked these schools (other than the CA ones) because I liked their missions and I would want to live there. I honestly don't really care whether I get into #1 vs #10. I'd rather be in a little more relaxed curriculum where I'd enjoy learning.
Suggestions on other schools I should include (or remove) would be good. I really want to live in a nice place (Im thinking residency and job at same location type of nice; weather, people, things to do, overall etc) and I wouldnt mind waiting another year to get that. If theres other great locations that Ive not included let me know. (I havent included fl schools because they get hurricanes!)
Thanks!
