I am applying for the Fall 2014 cycle while I complete the research portion of my master's degree in cellular and molecular medicine.
I am set to apply to DO schools but I'm not sure if I will be applying to MD schools due to my low MCAT. I may repeat it this summer if it will greatly increase my chances to matriculate at an MD school. The only problem is that time is very limited and I may not be able to finish my research project in time if I dedicate two to three months studying for the MCAT.
A short bio of myself:
-> Canadian/American dual citizen residing in Canada
-> BSc in Biochem & BASc in Chem Eng
-> MSc in Cellular & Molecular Medicine (aiming for June 2014)
-> Shadowed a DO and MD
-> 500+ hours clinical volunteer work
-> 100+ hours community volunteer work
-> Research experience (basic science & engineering)
-> Worked as a pharmacy tech for 1.5 years
-> Involved in international medical brigade trip
My stats:
-> Undergrad: NS-GPA: 3.84, S-GPA: 3.35, C-GPA:3.46
-> Post-Bac & Graduate (about 18-21 credits): NS-GPA: 4.0, S-GPA: 3.9, C-GPA: 3.96
-> MCAT: 28O (10V, 8PS, 10BS)
I am appying to the following DO schools:
-> KCOM
-> AZCOM
-> CCOM
-> DMU
-> MSUCOM
-> PCOM
-> UMDNJ-SOM
-> UNECOM
-> UNTHSC/TCOM
Any others I should look at?
As for MD schools, what are the best schools to apply to after doing post-bac and graduate work (with research)? I realize some do not give much consideration for your schoolwork after your undergrad so I want to apply to those that will consider what I did afterwards? Any suggestions for which MD schools to apply to with my stats?
Thank you.
