Hey all,
I was wondering if someone would critique my plan for appealing to medical schools? Ideally, I'd like to go to a medical school in Chicago or California, but I'll be applying broadly. I'd like to be as competitive as possible.
College: University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana
My Current Year: Incoming Sophomore
Major: Molecular and Cellular Biology
Minor: Chemistry, Philosophy
Honors Planned: Graduation with distinction (senior thesis), James Scholar
Other Certifications Planned: Leadership Certificate, CPR, EMT (after this summer)
Planned ECs: LAS101 Freshman Seminar Intern (junior year), RA (junior-senior year), Campus Emergency Medical Services (high activity planned), AMSA, research, volunteer at local hospital, Philosophy Society, Spanish Club
Planned GPA: 3.8 or above
Current Stats:
1st Semester GPA: 3.73 (B- in Chem--worst chem professor ever. lol He was just fired) (16 credit hours)
2nd Semester GPA: 3.76 (B in Chem, A- in Bio) (18 credit hours)
My GPA suffered a lot this year because I had a really ****ty first semester chem teacher. I was also almost constantly ill at least once per month.
Planning on MCAT 2015.
Any advice as to what to add? Anything here look useless? Haha. Am I missing something? Could I get into any California schools with these stats? Northwestern?
Thanks a bunch!
