3.78 Non-Science
3.13 Science (explanation below) -
3.31 cgpa
My MCAT is scheduled for (3 days from now) 5/11/13.
I'm presently taking Organic Chemistry I, will be done by mid-june (average right now is 94%) and will f/u with organic chem II.
History: I'm 33, married with 6 kids, 4 of which are home births.
1) I screwed up royally my freshman year in college 1998-99. Did everything you shouldn't. Got kicked out with a 0.633 gpa for 1 year. This is why my gpa above is so bloody low. I had a 3.8 through associate nursing and all other requisites including several graduate genetics courses I took for fun.
2) Went to online (WGU) ASN to BSN, turned out in the fine print = Pass or fail course setup is read as a B (3.30) gpa not an A. I ace'd every test or paper in the degree. This is hurting me and I regret it, but can't undo the past.
3) Im an RN of 2 & 1/2 years at the local hospital where 6 of WVSOM's instructing physicians practice and have three DO's that teach at the school willing to write LORs. One is a DO surgeon and another internal med that are very respected in the community while the third is one of the head instructors at the university. I recently transfered from the medical floor to the surgery department and this physician told the unit director that I was "one of the best nurses he'd ever seen." I realize a nurse != a doctor :).
EC's aren't a problem imho. Volunteer tutoring all subjects in college for four years, several cultural volunteer situations, sports,
Question:
Do I apply now through AACOMAS to WVSOM (open enrollment began May 1) when my MCAT scores won't return until early June & I haven't completed Org. Chem I or do I wait until one or both of these have completed?
"Everyone" tells me my admission is a slam dunk but I personally feel iffy to slim at best. They tell me it is a small town, word of mouth etc thing but....
