Alright, so here's my story. I started off at a local university. I did awful because I was more preoccupied with social aspects of college. After essentially bombing my first year, I dropped out, and decided to go to a community college that one of my parents worked at for free. I excelled, and managed to pull off a 4.0.
After that, I transferred off to a large state school, and although I did extremely well in small, focused classes, I did awfully terrible in the larger auditorium-like class rooms that were basically for the upper level sciences. After trying to repeat classes and failing to achieve a significantly higher grade, I dropped out yet again and decided to take my cc credits and transfer to a smaller university, in which I did exceptionally well once again.
Now, I was under the impression that the medical schools only wanted to see the grades of courses that counted towards my degree (Psych with biochem minor). So, I was planning to apply with my cc grades and my latest university grades, since I didn't use the credits from the other 2 institutions to attain my degree. I recently learned that that is not how things work, and that I must submit ALL transcripts from ALL institutions, regardless. I have 4 drops and 4 repeats from the other 2 universities in which I did awful at, 1 F and about 3 Ds on the transcript.
So, now, my GPA that I thought I was going to apply to dropped by 0.6 points both to 3.3 (cGPA) and 3.1 (sGPA) respectively. I'm due to take the MCAT on 13 July. I am obviously not qualified to apply to MD school, so, my question is, am I also condemned from applying to DO school? If not, what kind of an MCAT score must I achieve to stand a decent chance? I think I can pull a high 20s, but I'm unsure about a 30+ (my AAMC 3 score was a 21, and I'm taking 2 classes in the spring to bring my GPA up hopefully, so I have 2.5 months to prepare). At this point, I don't really care where I go for DO school, I just really want to get in.
My alternative is to say forget DO, and just apply to pod school. Would I even stand a chance there? I am willing to do this, since I've shadowed both DOs and pods, but I'd prefer to be a DO (although, I don't dislike the idea of being a podiatrist). I would also like to add that at this point, I really feel like I need to get on with my life, and not stay in undergrad. I'd like to get on with med school soon so that I may finally start being a true adult. I'm also not a very rich person, so I doubt I can apply to more than 10 medical schools total without getting broke. I greatly appreciate all your guy's inputs. My premed advisor has been a pain to work with...
