I would appreciate some advice on choosing which schools to apply to. Here's what my application generally looks like:
Male, Texas, non-minority
sGPA: >3.9
cGPA: >3.9
MCAT: >40
Research: 2 years + summers in same lab; poster presentations; 2nd author paper under review in high IF journal; intend on writing senior thesis
Leadership: a few small leadership roles in various service orgs
Volunteering: hospital ER (2 yrs), peer & high school tutoring (2 yrs), 1 week mission trip, various 1 time events
Shadowing: >70 hrs over 5 diverse specialties (including primary care)
Awards: couple small ones
Work experience: 1 summer in retail
LORs: 4 (very strong, strong, average, average)
School list, in no particular order:
Michigan (really like what I've heard about it)
UPenn
WUSTL
Duke
Mayo
Harvard
Stanford
Pitt (P.STP, family network here)
UChicago
Texas schools: UTSW, Baylor, UTH, UTSA, UTMB
How does that look? Texas schools are so great, so it would take either getting into a top-10 school or receiving a decent scholarship for going OOS to seem worth it. UCSF sounds beautiful too but low OOS acceptance rates make applying not seem worthwhile. All advice/comments appreciated!
