NJ resident - junior year (pretty good, small private college) asian (chinese), female, biology/spanish major
Grades: C in organic chemistry .. rest As/B+s
GPA - c3.593 s3.55
LOR - okay :/ from teachers, and amazing from a dean and supervisors (did not get a committee letter)
ECs - EMT, hotline volunteer, hospital peds dept volunteer ((( I will have over 1,000+ hours of service))) board position in two clubs (one health related, one student government)
Shadowing - a lot
MCAT - 30 10/10/10
I am applying my senior year (year off). Hopefully, bumping up my grades and retake MCAT and clinical experience... because I understand I am not near competitive for MD. I would say slightly competitive for DO.
I was wondering what your thoughts were on applying to Caribbean medical school to save a year?
I'm really not sure. I read a lot on SDN about how US DO is better than SGU/ROSS etc. I just don't know if I should graduate a semester early in Dec. save a year and a semester and go to SGU. (I think my stats are good enough to get in SGU, right?)
I've spoken to my "academic dean" but they're no help. I just don't know what's better for me in the long run.. I want to do peds.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the feedback. THANKS :)
