Hello everyone,
I am currently in a Masters program where I am taking medical school classes with the current first year medical students at a well know Medical school. I intend to apply to medical school this upcoming June. I have signed up to take my MCATs on the 30th of May.
The reason I am posting is because I cannot find any information on acceptance percentages for student who are applying to allopathic schools from graduate school. The only statistics I can find show the data for students applying right out of their undergraduate university. My undergraduate grades were not the best, and that is why I decided to earn my masters degree, to help boost my GPA and hopefully show that I am capable of competing and succeeding in medical school courses.
My overall undergraduate GPA was right around a 3.2, however this was because my freshman and sophomore years, when I was not sure what I wanted to do and therefore I unfortunately did not apply myself as much and I should have. My Junior year and Senior year grades were much better (Junior year 3.2 and Senior year 3.75, with a 4.0 my spring semester of my senior year) and now in graduate school I have so far scored A-'s in all of the medical school courses that I have taken. I am hoping that this upward trajectory of my GPA as of the last few years will allow committees to over look the mistakes that I made in my Freshman and Sophomore years.
I am planning to apply to roughly 30 schools for MD, and I have done some research into DO, should I also apply to a few DO schools, or does this come off as lacking commitment to the allopathic schools?
Has anyone found any information or statistics for graduate students applying to Medical school? Or does anyone have any experience with this themselves?
Thanks in Advance!
