MD Advice - 3.77 GPA/30 MCAT

Looking for some advice on what to do. I applied early this cycle (complete everywhere by early August) and have had three interviews, all of which have resulted in a hold. The schools were OHSU, Wake Forest, and U of Arizona - Phoenix. I am also currently small pooled at MCW and U of Central Florida and have several schools that have said nothing, but assuming silent rejection at most.

I'm looking for some outside advice on where I could possibly improve my application, what you guys think could be holding me back, and if an MCAT retake is a good idea.

Stats:
- cGPA: 3.77 (rough first semester w/ a 3.2, the rest were 3.8+)
- sGPA: 3.82
- MCAT: 10/10/10 (30 O)

Currently (none of this in AMCAS due to early submission date):
- Research Assistant in a cancer lab - pub in the works
- Volunteer at a children's hospital - all working directly w/ patients
- Community symphonic band member - a large 60+ member band

During College (a small LAC):
- Graduated in 2012 w/ a BS in Biology
- Research
  • Student researcher at undergrad for 2.5 years - no pubs
  • Baylor SMART program - end of program presentation
  • Student research at OHSU for one summer - end of program poster
- Clinical
  • Children's hospital volunteer for one summer
  • Intern at the Oregon Cord Blood Program - direct patient interactions going over consent forms and extensive medical history forms
  • Peds Heme/Onc shadowing for one summer ~100 hours
- Teaching/Tutoring
  • Orgo TA for one year
  • Gen Chem tutor for one year
- Employment
  • Student tech for our schools Integrated Technology Support ~ 2 years
- Leadership
  • Pre-Health Club President - senior year
  • Biology Club President - junior year
  • Member of our school's peer conduct board - freshman year
- Artistic
  • Saxophonist in our school's pep-band - all four years
  • Photographer for our school newspaper - 2 years
- Honors/Awards
  • Featured college graduate in my undergrad's state sate-wide newspaper (full page color article)
  • Featured graduate in my undergrad's parent & alumni periodical (full page color article)
  • Multiple Dean's Lists
  • Graduated cum laude
  • Several multi-thousand dollar scholarships (not just from the school, but outside organizations too)

LORs (we do not have a committee letter):
- Standard Three Letters
  • Academic Advisor, Upper Division Science Professor, and Principle Investigator
  • Upper Division Science Professor and Orgo TA Supervisor
  • Religions Professor (had freshman and senior year)
- Additional Letters sent to select schools
  • My Heme/Onc Physician, Mentor, and Principle Investigator
  • BCM SMART Program Principle Investigator
  • Lower and Upper Division Science Professor (had freshman and senior year)
- My current PI commented on the strength of some of these letters when I started in his lab, so I'm assuming they are all strong to very strong.

Another little tidbit about me is that I had an extensive battle w/ cancer as a teen for five years and that was worked into my PS and was the theme of all the secondary questions that asked about diversity or greatest challenge.

Let me know what you think I could add/change between now and June incase I end up having to reapply, and specifically if you think retaking the MCAT would be a good idea. My practice exams averaged 32 (11 PS/ 10 VR / 11 BS) with a range of 30-36, never dropping below 30, and only ever scored below a 10 in VR.

Thanks!

DAPI
