I am having difficulty gauging where I stand in regards to my application for MD and DO programs. My stats are below:
GPA: 3.611 (sGPA should be around the same, if not higher)
MCAT: 27
Graduated in '12 with a BS in Biology with the highest University honors and departmental honors (thesis based).
3.5 years of undergraduate research in the same lab (no publications but presented three times at 2 different conferences)
Large undergraduate research award
Worked as an EMT for 2 years and will be volunteering as an EMT starting in Jan.
Social fraternity member (served as President, Treasurer, and Vice President over my time in the organization)
Many awards won through the fraternity (international awards) including one that was named after me
Hundreds of volunteer hours through multiple different organization (mainly american red cross)
Brief shadowing exposure with ER doc (MD)
Worked part-time through college in non-clinical based work
Working on my M.S in molecular biology and should have a publication as first author sometime next year
I'm striving for MD and I know my MCAT score really isn't high enough on the radar to be too competitive. Spent the entire summer (3 months ~8-12 hours/day studying) and jumped from an 18 to a 27.
NC resident, white male
Any advice on what I should do?
