Hi, I'm new to the forum!
I'm interested in knowing what my chances are for getting into a DO school for the next cycle, starting summer 2013.
I'm currently finishing up my senior year at Cornell University as a human biology, health and society major. My current GPA is mediocre (a 3.025) but I still have two semesters worth of grades to increase it. (Plus, Cornell is known for being brutal when it comes to grades, whereas Harvard has an extreme grade inflation problem). I spent 2 years as a physical sciences major and struggled until I switched my major. I am now on an upward trend.
I took the MCAT over the summer and didn't do any where near what I was averaging at. My scores: 10 BS, 9 PS, 6 VR, & R on writing. I know that these scores, especially the verbal, aren't as high as they could be, but do you think admissions will understand that I am not bad at english due to the grades I have received in my english classes in college as well as how much better my writing mcat score is compared to the verbal score? I am trying to decide on whether I should re-take the MCAT.
I have a lot of ECs, including being a D1 varsity athlete for 4 years as well as working part-time while at school. I have done a lot of shadowing and will be doing more volunteering.
As a Long Island resident, do you think I might be able to get in to NYCOM? What about some of the other schools, despite my low MCAT/GPA?
Would love to hear your advice! Thanks!
