Long-time lurker here. I appreciate all you guys do. I would like some advice on how I can further improve my application in order to finally get a MD acceptance. My interest is in a competitive specialty (derm/plastics/ortho) and I think a MD school would best help that goal.
Stats:
MCAT 28
cGPA 3.47, sGPA 3.29
AZ resident
Liberal arts college in the northeast
Applied once to 15 MD schools, two interviews, two rejections.
ECs:
300+ hours volunteering in a hospital
200 hours shadowing ortho, derm, plastics, ED, Rads, OB
Full-time job at medical office (office assistant)
60 hours work with youth organization
1 semester tutoring science
Lab manager for my school
(Worked 15-20 hours per week in school)
Research experience in a cancer lab (1 semester)
2 publications in medical journals
2 years teaching martial arts
Black belt with numerous awards
Leadership position in premed club
I know that MCAT score won't get me in so that will need to be improved. But, any other advice on what I should be doing? Thanks!
