Hey guys,
Here are my overall stats so far to give everyone a ballpark for what I'm working with:
Overall GPA: 3.88 Major GPA(Psychology): 4.00 BCPM GPA: 3.73
MCAT: I recently took it for the first time August 9th and do not feel very well about it. The BS section was a lot harder than any of the practice tests I took or any material in general. I'm guessing I scored about about a mid 20's hopefully at the minimum a 25. Could be better or worse. I have no clue, it rocked me.
Letters of Evaluation: I believe they will be very strong since one was with my research professor who I took 3 courses with achieving A's in all of them, and the other two were from professors who I knew very well and did well in their course.
Some of my extracurriculars/leadership experience include:
-1 year of volunteer research experience working with stroke patients and conducting my own research
-USGA Treasurer for a year
-President of my fraternity for a year
-Organized 3 philanthropic service events that raised over 3,500 pounds of canned goods, made donations to MS Society, and organized group volunteer yard work for hospice patients.
-7 months of shadowing an internal medicine doctor
Community Service: Over 120 hours of community service at a variety of places.
I just completed my initial AMCAS application and am about to finish my initial AACOMAS application tomorrow.
My question is what do you think are my chances of getting into an MD or DO school with a mid-low 20's score and my current application above?
I am also debating on re-taking the MCAT on September 11th because I believe I did too much of content review the first time and not enough practice problems which I think should help me improve my score into the upper 20's/30. I should be getting my scores back the September 9th.
Do you think its worth the re-take for this application cycle? Or do you think its best to keep whatever my score is for the first test and see what happens this time? If I do not get accepted I will be reapplying next year but I would much rather not have to wait a year.
Thanks for the help!
