HELP WANTED! =D
Hi I've been a mess for the past several months.Self-confidence issues particularly starting with my MCAT score have caused me to doubt my abilities and second-guessing my career choice. I revised my personal statement 100x and still not happy with it, partly due to my difficulty with writing. Developed extreme anxiety/depression during the application to the point where all I needed to do was click submit, but did not. These past couple months have been looking into PA/nursing options. Currently in a long-term relationship 6.5 years and see this playing a factor in my decision. So as of right now I know I want to be in the healthcare field because I've always wanted to learn about the body, pathology aspects, and strongly desire patient interaction. I personally see myself in primary care and emphasis on preventative care through patient education. Definitely not going into surgery. PLEASE share your opinions on what I should do/ what are my chances if I were to apply at this moment / anything.
My stats are:
- Graduated from UC Irvine with a 3.69sGPA & 3.44cGPA in 2012
- Volunteered in Emergency Department for 220 hours my junior and senior year, felt longer since I was there for 2 years off and on. Also became an Emergency Department Trainer my last month there.
-Public Health Education organization for 3 years and eventually became a board member / fundraising chair my last year.
-Participated in 2 global brigades to Honduras and Ghana, my Junior and Senior year summers. Senior became a board member and fundraising chair.
- Participated in research for 2 years, no publication, PI screwed me over, but wrote a LOR.
- Campus Representative (aka tour guide) for 4 years, participated in campus outreach events.
Post Undergrad (Out of school for 1 year and 3 months now)
- Spent an entire year studying for the MCAT and took the test twice.
12 Physics / 6 Verbal / 11 Bio (first)
12 Physics / 6 Verbal / 10 Bio (second)
I know verbal is bad and I've always had reading comprehension problems since 6th grade, but never focused on it since I did so well in sciences and math.
Yes, I've taken 2 prep courses Berk / Princeton.
- Started working as a medical scribe at a podiatry clinic ( currently part-time 20 hours a week)
- Shadowed a Family Physician, Orthopedic PA (30 hours)
- Participated in the LA Marathon, hoping to run another one.
- Currently in basketball league with friends from high school back at home.
