I'll make this quick:
I graduated with a degree in Finance and Economics with a full ride scholarship and two business internships at top notch, Fortune 500 firms: Siemens and Integramed.
My experience in business school jaded and jolted me right out of pursuing a career in law or business (explained in my personal statement). My second internship was at one of the most prominent fertility clinics in the nation and thus played a large role in my transition to medicine (that and both of my parents are physicians).
I reenrolled immediately after graduating and pursued a third degree in biomed/microbio- it took 2 years and I finally got all of my pre-reqs. In that time I've had over 100 hours in volunteering at the Veterans Hospital and the pediatric neuropsychiatry ward at All Children's Hospital, I've also spent well over 150 hours doing direct psychiatric research with patients in a clinical setting, however I am not published (although my PI explained that the publication is pending). I also serve on the editorial board of our school publication (50,000+ students) and founded an organization that has received some local media coverage (internet, tv, radio, ect) for advocating gun control.
That being said, I think my GPA takes me down a peg: I reenrolled with a 3.2, I am currently at a 3.28 (although the AMCAS maybe .03 points lower)overall and a 3.44 science — I am looking at a possible 30-34 on my MCATS based on practices and my three recommendation letters come from the chairs of academic and clinical departments.
To reiterate, I apologize for coming off snobbish, I am simply trying to ascertain my chances of getting into ANY allopathic medical school.
P.S I am also listed as a disadvantaged student by virtue of my refugee status upon moving to this country from Russia — my family relied on federal aid and food-stamps for quite some time and I was informed that this would be a valid reason for marking the 'disadvantaged' section of my application.
