I posted previously on here explaining how I was considering returning to school as a post-bacc student to take pre-med courses after graduating with a BA in English in 2011. It's a long story that I won't go into in detail. Essentially, since I didn't know I would be seriously looking into med school until after graduation, I didn't partake in any clinical extracurricular activities while I was an undergrad. I'm just wondering, before I invest too much money and time into preparing to go back to school, if I have basically screwed myself over in this department at this point. I talked to an admissions director at the college where I graduated and determined that I have seven courses that I would need to take (including calculus; I've read that it's not absolutely mandatory but might as well be). So I'd be looking at two semesters, maybe three if I leave some courses for the summer, starting in Spring 2014.
It seems to me that most people spend their entire undergrad careers getting in their ECs and have more ECs overall than I can probably realistically get in now. So while I'm willing to try to do what I can in the ~year and a half before I finish my prereq courses, I want to know whether it's just too late to cram in ECs now or if it'll look awful that I didn't get in any as an undergrad.
I've already spent a good bit of money on college applications and investing in a few "for Dummies" types of books to begin studying some of the subjects on my own in the six months I have before I'd begin classes. Before I get overzealous and invest in anything else, have I pretty much screwed myself over in the EC department at this point?
