MD Canadian that has turned 30, feeling discouraged and not sure about my chances

Hi everyone,

Well, I just finished my third year in a biology UG and just turned 30. My cGPA right now is sitting at 3.67 which I can hopefully raise by the end of my last year. I have been volunteering at Princess Margaret Hospital for 2 years now with direct patient contact, but no shadowing experience. I have also been working at a professor's lab doing research since last summer and will be doing a thesis project this coming year, giving me quite a bit of lab experience.

Initially, before returning back to school, I worked as a graphic design and art director for 7 years in the advertising field. I had been saving up cash blindly and wasn't sure what I was going to do with it which is how I have been funding myself for the past while.

Last week I got my MCAT score which I was writing for the second time. I felt very confident about it and came out with a 27 (PS - 9, VR - 7, BS - 11). I have been scoring much higher (10-12's) in VR so that was quite the blow. There aren't any spots left open in Toronto for the rest of the summer to rewrite, so if I decide to I will have to travel to Calgary near the end of the summer.

I guess I'm just looking for any advice or words of wisdom. Do I even have a chance at any Canadian medical schools or are my choices becoming limited to Caribbean schools and the like?

Thanks for any help,
Phil
