Hi, I would like to get honest feedback about my situation as an applicant.
My stats:
3.4 AMCAS cgpa (up and down and up and down trend)
MCAT score coming in two weeks (expected low 30s)
EC's:
-Bench Research technician - 1 year
-Hospital volunteering/shadowing ~100 hours
-Religious organization - Began freshman year in high school with many leadership positions. Continued all throughout college
-Ethnic organization - 2 years - just got elected as VP
-Manager of Dorm fitness center - 1 year
-Animal Clinic - 1 semester
-Intramural sports throughout college - co-captain twice
-Student government - 1 year
-Psych research - 1 year
Going into my senior year. Will continue ECs in:
-Ethnic & religious orgs
-Bench research - (not as a tech, but as a researcher)
-Intramural sports
Facts about me:
-Father passed away in childhood.
-Mother became unemployed and we lived in poverty ever since.
-Younger sister diagnosed with uncurable disease
-Mother goes through frequent ER visits - complex disease that doctors can't fully diagnose
-Mother recently going through delusional episodes
-Older sister left home to get away from harassing/verbally abusing mother
-All this took away precious study, social, and EC time away from my college career.
-Transferred universities to stay close to family
-Received AMCAS FAP + disadvantaged status
Does all this make me an outlier in med school admissions and give me a chance at mid-tier to high tier schools? Am I viewed closely to a URM equivalent? I'm doing my best not to send out the pity card, but I don't want to leave out my story in the process. Any tips?
Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
