Freshman gpa 3.0...
strong Upward trend since
cGpa 3.4, sGpa 3.3
very highly ranked lib arts university
applied mathematical biology major
mcat 33
TX resident
First year gpa is so bad because I was on varsity crew, managed my time poorly, and had a sort of arrogance because my high school was very good and i thought i'd have an easy time in college. I have since learned the difference between confidence in my work ethic and the arrogance of prestige.
ECs:
>400 hours as project intern in prestigious graduate school lab... assisted in breast cancer research
>200 hours volunteering in clubs around school
>500 hours as a researcher in SMART program
was in columbia SMDEP
3 years on club squash team, final year as captain
assisted professor in lab research throughout school year about 500 hours
went to uganda, shadowed and assisted mds in helping with public health
this is quite brief, but i'm wondering my chances for certain schools...
also, people tell me that background is important... I'm a hugely URM, coming from a disadvantaged background, being african american, and being a female
top school application list:
Mt. Sinai (mega reach)
All of the UT schools
NOVA
NYMC
are there any others that you suggest? I am open to both DO and MD schools, but I would also like to attend school in an area near a metropolitan center
thank you!
