My first two years of college are terrible.
There is a huge trend of many classes dropped in-complete status and the same oChem class was failed twice with an F, then a D, and also taken once with an incomplete. 2nd year ended with a 2.7 GPA.
Since then I have had straight As, in the higher level Ochem classes and in all my other upper-division biology courses, and physics courses, and other random classes. My GPA is now at a "competitive" 3.5GPA.
I have also volunteered at a hospital for the past year, and I am involved with some other things at school.
I don't have any reason for doing so poorly my 2nd year besides making bad decisions.
With an MCAT score of 39, do you think I still have a chance of getting into medical school? (Any medical school, osteopathic or allopathic) Would I be able to get in if I applied now, or even if I applied later, in an year to wait for my GPA to raise to a maximum of 3.6?
I messed up pretty badly for no good reason, but I've made a huge change. I gave up hope and looked into other medical fields such as nursing, but I don't think I'd be truly happy doing anything but medicine as a doctor. I could probably settle for something less, but I really want to be a doctor; however, I have no idea if this is even a possible option any longer.
Thank you for your opinions!
