So I am a NY resident and my goals would be to get into any DO around the Northeast Area. As you can see my stats are 25O MCAT (10B,8P,7V), 3.55 cGPA/sGPA. My biggest concern right now is whether to go ahead and try to retake the MCAT. I studied for 4 months in the summer with no workload and being that I am in my senior year I'm not sure I can approve with the added stress of classes. Add to this I took the Kaplan course and used up all AAMC practice tests along with other material (ExamKracker Verbal).
My plan is to take a gap year and use this senior year to really boost my extracurricular and improve my GPA's to apply early this upcoming summer. As of right now my extracurricular are ok and I'm still adding more hours. Basic outline looks like this:
- Over 100 hours volunteering at local hospital (looking to hit over 200 or 250 by the summer)
- 50 hours shadowing MD/DOs (will improve this too)
- Holding leadership position for an organization on campus
- Leadership position in Fraternity
LORs
- Have two so far from science professors
- Working on a non-science this semester
- Getting a DO letter over winter break
So what are some opinions on what I should look to be doing and If I did apply this cycle how do you think I would fare?
