- 3 years out of undergrad at a public ivy
- extreme upward trend in GPA (freshman year was a 2.5)
- was originally planning to apply for a PhD in biomedical science but after working full-time for a while in research, it became clear that I was more interested in medicine
- research in 3 different labs during undergrad for ~1 yr each, one publication out of it (though not in a bio/medical-related field).
- full-time basic medical research for 2 years after college at a very well-known hospital with two first author pubs, and a couple poster presentations at large national conferences
- bio requirements fulfilled in post-bac because I was a chem major in college - my research experience made these classes sort of redundant.
- my late start means I have fairly little in the way of volunteering (i calculate about 200 hours), but ~100 hrs shadowing. should i try to get more volunteering in?
- pretty unique family story that genuinely affects my desire to practice medicine
- glowing LOR from an MD/PhD professor on an adcomm at a top 5 MD program (not that I expect this to 'pull strings', so to speak, but it probably carries more weight than your average rec letter
Where should I aim?
