Hi guys,
ONE EDIT: guys- I maintained a 3.95 GPA while abroad. While AMCAS doesn't incorporate this into my GPA, it has to help my applications.
So I guess consider my GPA to be a bit higher than 3.35 considering the schools are going to request to see these grades.
I wouldn't go as far as to say my GPA is a 3.52 (the average) but the schools will factor these grades in and consider them.
I posted here a while ago but I've done a lot more research and am coming back with questions for you guys.
I'm a Canadian applicant with a 3.35GPA (science and general GPA are very similar as I only ever took one or two non-science courses in university)
Took my MCAT june 20th. I think I did OK, despite the uproar of people saying it went horribly.
My ECs are strong
-year of mentoring freshman as a volunteer
-was on a charity council raising money for C.F and organized my own fundraiser
-summer of cancer research with poster presentation
-summer of volunteering within oncology/medical imagine/endoscopy
-summer of shadowing
-summer of genetic research in a foreign country and won first place for my poster
I have a LOR from an orgo prof who can attest to how dedicated I was, one from a patient from the hospital I volunteered at, one from a former boss and one from a summer camp I worked at. I haven't received the one from the professor yet, but I only asked him a few days ago (stupid of me, I know).
I'm avoiding Canadian schools in general due to my GPA.
I'm applying to
Howard
Meharry
Texas Tech El Paso
Temple
Texas Tech Lubbock
Western Virginia
George Washington (aware of the 2.1% admissions rate*)
Rush
Tulane
NYMC
Eastern Ten
EVMS
Virginia Commonwealth
Michigan State
Rosalind Franklin
Georgetown *
Jefferson
Hofstra
Quinnipiac
Saint Louis
Creighton
Keck
I'm ALSO applying to every school in Ireland through Atlantic bridge (UCC, UCD, U Limerick, RCS, Trinity, Galway, and the other RCS)
...And I'm considering applying to the Caribbean (SGU SABA ROSS AUC AUA). Not really set on it. Feel like it might be unnecessary.
I'll ask specific questions. I've looked at the standards of admission, but I wanted some opinions from my peers...
1. What do you guys think my chances are?
2. Am I missing any schools you think I should strongly consider applying to? Other countries?
3. Am I aiming too low or too high?
4. Is it a really big deal that I haven't submitted yet? Can I stand to wait another week so I can wait for my LOR to come through... or can I just go ahead and submit without the LORs and they'll come in later? My transcript hasn't arrived either... does that affect my submission process?
Thanks so much for your time in reading this and hopefully replying :)
