I was just hoping that I could get a check up about the strength of my ECs, at my small state school they're considered strong, but since they're going to be the highlight of my application I would love some feedback on what I can focus/add in the next year! I'm afraid it looks too much like I read a "how to get into medical school" book and took everything they said too literally.
If I don't change anything this is how my ECs will look next May:
Medical/Science Related
-1 summer of paid research at prestigious university (~360hrs)
-Volunteer with patient group whose disease I studied at above (~75hrs)
-2 years and 1 summer of research at local medical university (3 posters) (~750hrs)
-1 first author review article publication
-1-2 second author publications
-Volunteer EMT (~500hrs)
-2 10 day long global medical trips (I assisted physicians and did triage) (~80hrs)
-Intern with the nonprofit I went on the trips with (not technically medical related but I do a lot of recruitment and office work) (~340hrs)
-Started student organization for same nonprofit (~40hrs)
-Medical volunteer at local free clinic (~120hrs)
-Month long public health project in Africa (~160hrs)
-Various shadowing (~80hrs)
Non-Medical
-Executive member of school honor council (~190hrs)
-3 years sorority member (w/ executive position)
-Competitive school undergraduate business program (~100hrs)
-School leadership award (only given out to one student a year) and various other little awards
I'm not applying this cycle so my grades/MCAT don't really matter (grades are high but might go up or down, and I won't have my MCAT score for another two months).
