I just finished my first year of college. I took a leave of absence my first semester of college to take care of some personal issues. I'm doing fine in college and I have good plan about what I want to major in and for everything else. I'm also sure that the rest of my application will be good -> 3.8 or higher gpa, strong mcat, good extra curriculars and research. I am already making good progress in all of these areas.
Recently I found out that med schools don't like leave of absences for reasons that are not like family member deaths, hospitalization, etc. They also would like documentation or detailed explanation. My reason was emotional and very personal to me - it is not similar to these reasons. It is very personal and I do not want to give a detailed explanation, I just want to say family and emotional issues that I resolved by taking it. I also don't have documentation. How bad will that be for admission to medical school? Especially a top 25 medical school?
