GPA: 3.7
sGPA is approx 3.8 (I dont have an exact number, but Ive only received a couple B's in my science classes)
I take the MCAT in two months and have been scoring in the mid to upper 30's on the practice tests so Im hoping those are a good predictor of how I will fair on the real thing so...here's to hoping lol.

Took a break from biology to pursue my RN and will be finishing that up soon, and then will have have two semesters left for my biology BS. I work, and will be working as an RN, in the ER at two trauma centers, one pediatric one adult.

Started off as a volunteer, at least 300 hours with that probably more, then unit sec, then CNA, now RN. Ive been fortunate to have the blessings of many of the docs here who let me shadow on days off, and I will not be wanting for LOR's there. Proving my commitment to medicine shouldnt be a problem.

Just a short summary of EC's: I coach youth hockey, Ive played hockey my whole life and have been captain most of those years, looking to be president of the student nurse association at my school, and I play the violin and piano. Unfortunately between school, studies, work, and clinicals my free time is quite limited and I am not involved in as much as I'd like to be. I am hoping to add a trip to a third world area next year over spring break to deliver some medical care as well.

My only draw back is that I started out in engineering and completely destroyed my GPA, I was at close to a 2.0 at one point, and was nearly on academic suspension but the fact that Ive since made up for that and shown nothing but improvement since, I would think, shows that I can handle myself academically. \

I will be applying to the likes of Harvard, Hopkins, Yale, and other Ivy league and top medical institutions as I feel that I may as well try. I will be applying to all the state schools, here in Florida, as well as a handful of others. I think its 20 schools total. Really I'm hoping and preparing for the tops schools so that my application looks competitive everywhere. I would not be at all upset though if I ended up at a "mid-level" medical school. In the end Im still a doctor.

And as a side note: I understand that I will get questions up until the day I am accepted to med school, and even after, as to why I got my RN and decided to go for the MD (or DO, Im keeping my options wide open). The doctors I know who took the path I am taking said they were asked why they want to make the switch at every single interview they went to. I love nursing. Absolutely love it. It is an amazing career that allows me to affect peoples lives in a, mostly, positive way every single day. There was a time that I couldnt see myself doing anything else but nursing. However, it isnt intellectually stimulating to me, and my scope of practice is horribly limited. I will not be pursuing a practitioner or PA career because I will always kick myself knowing that I have the potential to be a doctor and didnt take that chance. And in the setting I want to work in, the scope of practice of those two careers are limited to a lifetime of handling the easy cases. Thats all I have to say about that here lol.

Anyway that was a mildly brief synopsis of where I stand, I did leave some stuff out but nothing I deem important enough to effect anything, so I leave it to you all to pick it apart.
