Hello

My current major is Zoology
Science GPA: 3.70
MCAT: 31 (9 PS, 12 VR, 10 BS)
Alabama resident

Research:
I had an independent research project funded by a Research Fellowship. My project was over a period of 3 semesters and it was to characterize the effect of a gene mutation on the phenotype of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen that infects patients with compromised immune systems as well as people with Cystic Fibrosis. My research fellowship concluded with me presenting my research at a conference. I maybe spent around 500 hours in lab.

I quit that lab and now I am working in a lab doing research on the effects of cortisol on birds. I spent considerably less time in my new lab due to other obligations. I have currently been in it for 2 semesters with around 90 hours of work.

Volunteering:
I volunteered at a nursing home over the span of one year. It had both clinical and non-clinical portions. For the nonclinical activities, I lead the residents in games. In terms of clinical, I assisted the exercise coordinator in leading the residents in daily exercise routines designed to help the residents maintain strength and motor skills as well as followed the nurses as they did their daily health check ups for the residents. I spent about 140 hours here.

I had the opportunity to volunteer for an internist after shadowing with him. He trained me on how to use some of the various equipment in his clinic. My job was to help in taking the height, weight, and blood pressure of patients. I also served as a greeter for the patients. I did around 80 hours for this.

Shadowing
I have shadowed an internist for 20 hours. A rural medicine internist for 20 hours. A dermatologist for 24 hours. A psychiatrist for 20 hours.

Other ECs
I was a supplemental instructor for chemistry. As an SI, I lead regularly scheduled review sessions using the notes I took from attending the class I was assigned. I dedicated around 480 hours to this over the course of 4 semesters.

I worked with my school's athletic department to tutor athletes. I did this for 2 semesters and accumulated 150 hours.

I was the vice president of Diversity in Honors, an organization aimed at providing academic support to students in the Honors College with diverse backgrounds at my university. We do this by organizing socials, resume building workshops, networking opportunities with faculties, research presentations, and much more. This club started off as an informal meeting but during the 2012-2013 semester, we applied to be an official Auburn recognized organization and we got approved. During the first semester that this club became official, I was elected as the vice president. I will have been in this club for all 4 years of my college undergrad.

I was also a national member of AED.

There's probably others I forgot to mention.
