Hi there
I am hoping to get some helpful advice as before I attempt to apply for med school. So I am a Texan resident, I am looking to apply to med school, just finished my sophomore year of college cGPA 3.69, however I had transfered from a different college where I spent a very terrible freshman year and ended up with a 3.1 cGPA and a 3.0 sGPA. I have been taking full care and living with my little sister so that took a big chunk of my time freshman year, now days I am better at dealing with it. I am currently studying for the MCAT planning to take it early September. I would like to know if I am totally screwed for Med school and if there are other alternatives, I have to graduate in 4 years because I am bound by a full tuition loan that would be forgiven if I graduate in 4 years. So I have been doing shadowing mounted a 30 hrs shadowing a Internal medicine doctor, and currently shadowing two doctors one Neurology and one Ophthalmology. I have been working on research for a year now and I should have a publication by Spring, I have done a couple of volunteer opportunities here and there with a Health organization I joined but I am looking to find a more stable sources of volunteer hours, I tutor and volunteer with a refugee shelter. As well as tutoring English to ESL students, since I was an ESL student 4 years ago.
So my main question is am I done for because of the way that my freshman year ended up especially since my Science GPA is so low? what should I be doing more? what are other options that I have? Any advice or insite in hugely appreciate. I have been trying to get more involved in school leadership positions but I failed.
Please any input is greatly appreciated
Thank you very much
