I am currently sitting at ~3.5cGPA(will know for certain after This semester's over but +/- a few hundredths of a point.
3.38sGPA( with a likely A, AB and a C from organic this semester it will prob stay here)
27 MCAT(7,11,9)
I have a strong upward trend (never below 3.0 but right around there to 4.0 last semester but the C in orgo will leave me at less than a 3.5 this semester)but due to my shifting plans the first two years in school, and my international studies and history majors, I haven't had a class count for sGPA since freshman year(1B, 1 BC in chem and physics respectively, after getting 5s on the AP exams to place into the secod semester classes, a mistake)until I took bio this year(A) and now immuno(already done with A), microbio(expecting A or AB), and orgo. My major gpa is around a 3.8, but the sGPA with the orgo grade worries me.
On board of one of the new premed societies on campus(distinguished involvement)
Gold status(just did a lot) for pre med honors society
(both of these joined this fall, though so not much time with either)
Only volunteering is with those groups for ~35 hours so far, pretty pathetic compared to most here, 25 of which are both shadowing and volunteering at a local community health center.
Shadowed 2 DOs, both orthopedic surgeons, one for half a day and the other I am hoping will be available for more, the clinic shadowing is with MDs.
Doing a public health internship this summer(~400hrs, if it matters)
I sell my photography which generally pays for textbooks every semester
I am looking to get into one of the better southeastern schools(LECOM, NOVA, others) or a Midwestern school(MUCOM, CCOM(probably not good enough stats) ATSU, others). I would like to live in one of those regions(family in Midwest, uncle + cousin in SE, but after snow for 20yrs, Florida would be nice)
Are any of these schools within my reach? I really like the problem based learning idea at LECOM-B. Any ideas to boost my chances? Thanks in advance, best of luck to anyone doing finals. I plan on applying broadly, I only want to have to do this once.
