Well it's been a long year of post Bach. I've never made a chances thread but since I'm about to apply, I could use some advice, as long as its honest:
I graduated November 2011 with a 2.9 sgpa and 3.185 cgpa. After a year of 8 retakes and tacking on organic for the first time, my stats have increased : in 2 weeks school is over and I'm killing it this quarter so I'm counting what my GPA will be as of 2 weeks from now lol.
SGPA: 3.72
CGPA: 3.6 something
MCAT: I scored a fricken 22 on a practice AAMC test, but I have not had a good schedule dud to school. I was supposed to take 5/30 but will probably take 7/13. The difference will be that I finish school 5/13 or 14 and I won't have another class until 2nd summer( which I'm only taking 1 more class for the loans so I can study all day from 5/15 until my mcat. I have good verbal scores, so I should be able to up the sciences and increase the composite to closer to my goal: 32!
ALpha epsilon delta " pre med fraternity"
Kinesiology fraternity: I list these because I have small activities that I may mention on primary. Nothing huge.
I have about 220 hours of direct patient contact( some outpatient and some inpatient physical therapy as an intern requirement for undergrad) literally picking up the patient and setting them to rest on their beds. I guess that's direct.
Tons of physician shadowing:
International shadowing opthalmologist in brazil
Shadowed my pediatrician lol
Shadowed my brother who is a surgeon. MD
Currently shadowing a FP MD and and ortho surg DO
DO letter
MD letter
Pre med committee letter ( even though I'm a non trad)
If needed, I can get my kinesiology professor to write a LOR( thoughts?)
I have some small volunteer but not enough in my eyes.
Well that's about it: I know it's a long winded post but in order for you to assess me I needed to be honest about the things I plan to use on my primary.
Short term plans?
Finish strong in these last 2 weeks of school.
Finish primary and submit to 1 school ( apparently that's the way to do it)
Study all day until MCAT on 7/13( hopefully not too late :(
Take micro so that I won't have to forfeit those loans. Lol
** fill out secondaries if they come.. Wait in paranoia with my SDN brethren.
I'm a Louisiana resident so UNT-TCOM is my dreamer school. Hopefully I get there. Any thoughts and tips are so greatly appreciated. I am pretty sure I am going to be one hell of a doctor. I am so excited to find out what med school brings.
