It is looking ever so likely that I will be reapplying, so I was hoping to get some feedback on chances and maybe some activities opinions.

Verified

Mid July and most secondaries completed by early to mid August. I applied early and still failed :(

Numbers

cGPA = 3.52
sGPA = 3.46
MCAT: 14PS/9VR/11BS = 34Q

ECs *At the time of application in 2012*

200 hours in emergency dept and other areas of Hospital
100 hrs non-clinical volunteering
1 yrs of research - no publications
3 years of tutoring
Interesting and clinically relevant design project (poster presentation)

Outcome

I received 7 interviews total, waitlisted at 5 and rejected at 2.

New additions

I have been working in a research lab since applying and this is my major update since last application. My work has resulted in 2 poster presentations and 1 or 2 publications (one of them is second author). I am not sure if I will have the publication accepted by reapp time, but I am thinking of listing it in AMCAS as pending publication (manuscript is written and will be submitted in a week or so). Then I can update schools about it later on in cycle as confirmation. Is this acceptable?

I have continued tutoring for the year and I have continued one of my non medical volunteering as well for half the year. I have been looking for clinical opportunities, but most of the ones I've seen are the same as my hospital experience and I don't think it will offer anything new (hope this wasn't a mistake). Finally I will shadow a DO sometime this month so I can get a DO letter as well.

Likely Problems First Time

I received enough interviews to "typically" get an acceptance, so I am thinking my interviewing skills must have been god awful. I will definitely work heavily on them this cycle. I had a couple people on SDN read my PS and the overall consensus is that it was well written technically, but lacked passion. I am in the process of editing parts of it to get a more personal and caring side to it. Same goes for my secondaries I guess, they could have been better.

***********************************************

So, my main worry is that I do not have enough changes to my application. Something that I am particularly worried about is that I stopped my clinical volunteering as soon as I applied and my stats/numbers don't change at all.

I am happy to answer any questions or give more details if needed. Thanks for all your help
