Some personal info about me:
I'm 28 years old and have been teaching English at a local Birmingham high school for five years. I'm married with a baby on the way, and recently (even before we knew about the baby), I've decided to pursue a career in medicine.
My wife and I have discussed it fully and she fully supports this decision.
My background:
English degree from Auburn University with a 3.02 GPA. Bad, baaad freshman year with a so-so sophomore year. Made up a lot of ground junior and senior year.
I took the GRE last January thinking I would go to graduate school for English. I scored in the 98th percentile on the Verbal section due to lots of studying and in the 71st percentile on the Math. I don't bring those scores up to brag at all but just to show that I am willing to work hard and that I am capable of doing well on standardized tests.
So, what are my chances of getting into medical school? Particularly UAB?
I am in a unique position because I still have the chance to take all of my pre-requisites except for Calculus, which I took at Auburn. Unfortunately, I made a C, but that was freshman year, which I mentioned was horrible!
Anyways, I feel certain that becoming a full time student will give me the chance to make a 4.0 and give me plenty of time to put an honest effort into scoring well on the MCAT.
To sum up:
With my 3.02 undergrad GPA, the chance to earn a 4.0 in my pre-med courses, and the possibility of earning a 30+ (my goal is a 35), what are my chances of getting into medical school, particularly UAB?
Thanks so much!
