I'm a B.S. bio major graduating from a small liberal arts college this semester.
I took the MCATs last summer and had a terrible test day experience resulting in my score (20 overall, lowest section was verbal). I plan to retake them this summer, my practice tests last summer were all above 25 so I think I can aim for above a 27 overall. My GPA, although low, shows an upward climb since my junior year spring semester. I also did very well my freshman year, so my transcript basically just shows a sophomore dip in it. I got a C+ in microeconomics that year.
I'm really just trying to decide what I should do for next year that would make me look most attractive to medical schools. My options include:
1 gap year in which I am employed as a lab assistant - filling in extra time with shadowing experiences
*delaying my graduation so I can take 3 more science classes and hopefully bump up my sGPA to a 3.46 (or around there) and my cGPA to around a 3.48 (assuming this semester goes favorably)
*or I could just apply to and matriculate to a caribbean medical school for next year.
I have strong recommendations, I've worked in a lab doing research for a year, I have volunteered at a local hospital for a year now (50+ hours), I come from a family of doctors, and I'm also a Div 1 athlete.
Any suggestions would be very very much appreciated.
