Hello All,

Lurked around the forum for a long time, but first time posting.
I would apply in 1-2 years, depending if I do a post-bacc program.

Undergrad: 3.33 cGPA, 3.33 sGPA. BS Cell and Molecular Biology

Strong upward trend. Made a mistake in high school and transferred poor grades (2.66 starting my freshman year) and did not do well my second semester freshman year. Junior/Senior GPA: 3.67, Senior last semester GPA: 4.00 (but not core classes). Did well in cell/molecular/micro classes, but not in electives like ecology and intro class.

MCAT: 24. I stupidly did not study and just took it, but I'm confident I can prepare enough for mid to low 30's overall score. I am focusing studies in PS. Unfortunately, I know the 24 will still show up.

Undergrad Lab assistant @ School of Pharmacy: August 2012 - recent. (no pub, but 1 poster)
Hospice Volunteer: Dec 2010 - June 2012
ICU Volunteer: Oct 2010 - May 2011
CNA: August 2009 - August 2010
Hours are lower than would be expected for time periods.

Summer camp for children with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders): July 2011 and July 2012 (1wk each)
Misc other volunteer experience including Science fair judge, recovery event after a flood, and hosting a location for Ocean Conservatory (beach clean up)

Certificate program in ASD @ Uni (3 semester; 12 credit)
Leadership "Certificate" through Kirby Leadership Program (University program board)

Shadowed 2 Doctors, both Family Prac.

LOR:
Hometown MD (shining)
Current PI (shining, but short time in lab)
Other faculty (TBD)

Background:
I'm from a very small isolated rural town that happens to be MUA. Definitely, want to do primary care, never had an interest in specialization. Would potentially practice in a rural area since I'm from one. Not really looking at a top tier school, would mostly like to know my chances at entering a mid to low-tier MD or DO school, but would mostly apply in the area (North midwest: MN, ND, WI, IA). Unfortunately, I'm 22/m/Asian.

Future plans:
Looking into a 2 year MS program, increasing shadowing experience, and would like to increase clinical experience as well before applying.

I'm wondering if I should bother with applying with the direction I'm going. I feel pretty demoralized through reading the forums and as I haven't even been able to directly enter a Master's program. I also am wondering if clerical healthcare experience counts for anything. I'm having trouble finding a paying way to get clinical experience outside of CNA/PCA.

Please let me know if there's any more information I can provide for you. I'm unsure if I should continue my pursing an MD/DO or look into other careers..
